Class of 2010 Visit To Northern Virginia

While in Northern Virginia, the Class of 2010 traveled to Top of the Town in Arlington for a spectacular view of Washington DC.  The class members learned about the Greater Washington region's economy from Former Congressman Tom Davis, Cheryl Kilday, Chairman, Virginia Travel and Tourism Association and Matt Erskine from the Greater Washington Initiative.  Friday started off with a bang with a diversity panel at Wakefield High School.  The diversity panel shared their personal stories and included Andres Tobar, Executive Director, Shirlington Employment & Education Center and LEAD VIRGINIA Class of 2007, Najet Chiha and Christelle Nana, both graduates from the Northern Virginia Family Service Training Futures program and also two Wakefield High School recent graduates Gloria Lemus from El Salvador and Mekdes Kebede from Ethopia.  The class enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Dulles International Airport, toured the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center and concluded a full day in Loudoun County at Sunset Hills Vineyard for a tasting, tour and dinner.  Saturday morning focused on transportation in the region with guest speakers Delegate Vivian Watts, Doug Koelemay from the Commonwealth of Virginia Transportation Board, Bob Chase from the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance, Delegate Joe May and Delegate Tom Rust.  Delegates Watts, May and Rust presented a potential transportation funding solution (HB 971) for discussion and debate.

The Northern Virginia co-chairs were Ardell Fleeson, Commercial Real Estate Broker, CB Richard Ellis and LEAD VIRGINIA Class of 2009 and Kurt Krause, General Manager, The National Conference Center and LEAD VIRGINIA Class of 2009.  A special thank you to XO Communications for their sponsorship of the session and to MVM, Inc., The National Conference Center, Washington Gas and McGuire Woods LLC for being dinner sponsors.
